TWO UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI CHESS PLAYERS PARTICIPATE IN THE FIDE ONLINE OLYMPIAD 2020

Following announcement by International Chess Federation (FIDE) regarding the FIDE Online Olympiad 2020 - ONLINE - which will take place from July 22nd till August 30th, 2020,Chess Kenya has confirmed participation. Two of the participants are University of Nairobi Students.

  1. Lucy Wanjiru- she is the reigning Kenya national Chess champion and Student at university of Nairobi. She made her international debut when she made it to the 43rd World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia in 2018. Her superb performance there earned her the Woman Candidate Master (WCM) title.She also qualified to represent Kenya in All Africa games held in Morocco but couldn't attend due to change in format.
    She currently turns out for Deadly Bishops in the Kenya Premier Chess League (KPCL)
    Besides Chess,she is a talented rapper and have recorded several songs.

2. Madelta Glenda – she is a Medical student at university of Nairobi and only started playing chess in June 2016.She was 2nd in the KNYCCC 2017 finals U18 Girls category. She was the 1st in Lighthouse Chess tournament 2019 Under 25 Ladies category She qualified to play for Kenya Womens team for the first time to the 44th World Chess Olympiad that was due to be held in Moscow, Russia, this August. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic it was pushed back one year to August 2021

She is the latest recruit of former KPCL champions Equity Chess Club
