The University of Nairobi (UoN) will on September 25, 2020 hold its 63rd graduation ceremony virtually amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has crippled gatherings.
UoN Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama, in a statement released on Friday, said the institution will graduate all students qualified for PhDs, Masters, Bachelors, Diplomas and fellowships.
Prof. Kiama also stated that continuing students will commence the new academic year virtually in September on a date to be announced by the Senate after deliberations.
“I urge parents, guardians and sponsors to support the students with smartphones, iPads, or computers to enable them participate in our online classes from the safety of their homes,” said the don.
He further added that the institution’s Academic division shall soon issue joining instructions and guidelines for conducting the online orientation for the first year class of 2020/2021.
“The University of Nairobi statutes provide for position of Emeritus Professor, to be conferred on merit to the professors who retire and meet the eligibility criteria,” added the VC.
“I am glad to inform you that the Senate has approved procedures and regulations for the positions of Emeritus Professors. This will enable us to retain the services of productive professors beyond their retirement age.”
