The University of Nairobi hockey teams made their presence felt at the coast this past weekend during the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) League matches held on April 19th and 20th, 2025, at the Mombasa Sports Club. Facing stiff competition, the Cubs, Lions, and the ladies’ team all showed grit, skill, and team spirit in a weekend of thrilling action.
National League Men:
The UoN Cubs opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mombasa West on Saturday, displaying solid defense and clinical finishing. Sunday brought a tougher test against the hosts, Mombasa Sports Club, where the Cubs fell 2-0 after a determined effort in a high-intensity match.
Super League Men:
The UoN Lions roared to a confident 2-0 win over Mvita, asserting their dominance with sharp attacks and disciplined defending. Their composed performance proved they’re serious contenders in the Super League campaign.
Ladies Super League:
The UoN Ladies hockey team showed true grit on as they battled to a 1-1 draw against the formidable Mombasa Swans in a Kenya Hockey Union Super League showdown at the Mombasa Sports Club.
Facing a team known for their home-ground advantage and fast breaks, UoN held their ground with sharp defending and unwavering determination. After going toe-to-toe in a tense match, both sides shared the spoils, but UoN walked away with more than just a point—they left with a message: they can match up with anyone.
