UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI CHESS TEAM CLINCHES GOLD AT KUSF NATIONAL PLAYOFF A HOSTED AT KABARAK UNIVERSITY

The University of Nairobi Chess Team has done it again. The team, popularly known as the UoN Trailblazers, has etched its dominance onto the national stage with authority, brilliance, and unmistakable class.

After a commanding performance in the KUSF Nairobi South Region, sweeping gold in both the men’s and ladies’ categories, the team marched into the KUSF National Playoff A not merely as participants, but as contenders determined to leave a lasting mark.

Hosted at the prestigious Kabarak University, the KUSF Playoff A brought together an astounding 1,843 athletes from 39 universities across the country. It was a convergence of talent, ambition, and competitive fire. Yet amid this sea of excellence, one team stood poised and unshaken, the University of Nairobi.

In the chess category, UoN delivered nothing short of a masterclass. Battling through an intense eight-round Swiss system, the chess team showcased their precision, resilience, and remarkable consistency. Out of eight grueling rounds, they secured seven victories and one draw, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament.

Their dominance was so emphatic that they clinched gold with a round to spare, sending a clear message to the rest of the field: the crown belonged to the University of Nairobi Chess Team.

Each move told a story of preparation. Each handshake at the end of a match symbolized quiet confidence. Each victory echoed months of disciplined training and collective sacrifice.

“Excellence is never accidental. It is forged through discipline, sacrifice, and an unbreakable belief in one another. Every player gave their absolute best, and together we transformed preparation into victory,” said captain Timothy Mwabu.
