The College of Biological and Physical Sciences was crowned overall winners of this year’s UoN sports day.

College of Health Sciences was number 2 followed by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In a day characterized by rigorous sports and games, themed outfits, different activities on all the fields going on simultaneously, and lively music, the University of Nairobi held its annual sports day on Friday, June 18, 2021.

Since Covid-19 rocked the world’s boat and stopped group activities, it had been a long time since the University held a physical event that brought all the staff and students together. The Friday event saw college teams of footballers, basketballers, handball, volleyball, hockey, athletics, scrabble, table tennis, and tennis teams play against each other.

While officially flagging off the event, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Human resource, and Administration, Prof. Enos Njeru emphasized the importance of sports, “This is an important event in the University’s calendar. Sports is therapeutic and good for your health.”

Prof. Stephen Kiama, the University’s Vice-Chancellor took the opportunity to acknowledge the sponsors of the event; Telkom Kenya, Tecno Mobile, UoN Alumni Association, Primehood Supplies, Flame Tree, KUSU- UoN Chapter, FOMO TV, Special Olympics Kenya, and Kubamba Radio. He expressed his gratitude to all who partnered with the University and to all the staff and students that came out to play.

He awarded trophies to the winning teams and urged the university community to invest more in sporting activities. He highlighted the emphasis that some parts of the world put on sports and extracurricular activities and urged the university to pick on that.

The theme for this year's event was, 'Keeping safe and Healthy through sports'
