Most of these team participate in the National Federational Leagues , others take part in the Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) Leagues while others particiapate in the KUSA conference(zonal) leagues.Further some other teams participate in the selected national tournaments.

Upto and including the month of March 2020,most of the teams were performing exceptionally well in these leagues.Indeed, the Vice- Chancellor and the office of the Deputy -Vice Chancellor Students Affairs had scheduled an award ceremony to recognize those teams  and specific players/athletes who had excelled in their respective sports and also the sports team captains who had performed well in terms of leadership of their teams.

However, the currentt National Covid 19 pandemic has adversely affected all the teams. All the schedeuled events were abruptly  put on hold effective 16th March,2020.Specifically therefore the Corona Virus that is affecting the entire world has negatively impacted on the UON teams in the following ways.

  1. Premature stoppage of any scheduled National leagues and tournaments effective mid March,2020
  2. Stoppage of any scheduled evening training sessions.Sports by nature involves training or individual in preparation for the scheduled march fixtures. This is no longer the case.
  3. Team work and team spirit is no longer the norm of the UON teams.
  4. Uncertainty of the scheduled National leagues and tournament is still lingering in the minds of the specific team Games ,Tutors,Manages,Coaches and players themselves
  5. By the time the National Government was issuing the closure of the learning Institution, the department of Sports and Games had not consolidated the sports equipment and kit that had earlier on been issued to the sports teams through their respective team captains

  1.  Inbuilt UON internal Sports Programme were also abruptly put on hold. These include staff and students, sport fixtures aerobic classes, intercollege /campuses,UON Annual Sports day just to mention but a few. For  now, we are remaining hopeful that once the learning institution re-opens. Our teams will pick it up from where we stopped and perform, possibly, even better after this long break
