It is rare that the university students excel in track and field athletics hence the notable unique performance put up by one Ferdinand Omanyala, a first year Bachelor of Science student majoring in chemistry and former Friends School Kamusinga Rugby player and sprinter. Ferdinand joined UoN in 2015 and since then has been trail blazing the athletics track both at the university and country wide, he is a renown sprinter with lots of promise and is a young man to watch in the coming days especially next season when he shall have matured from the shackles of freshman year to graduate into year 2 of study at the university.

Thursday the 30th June 2016 was quite a memorable day for Ferdinand for although he missed the target by a mere 2 milliseconds, he felt gratified and in his own words   “it was more than I expected”. It was at the Rio 2016 Olympics final selection in Eldoret Kipchoge Keino stadium where he joined a star studded lineup of elite sprinters at the 100m dash. He not only emerged the winner in a time of 10.37s but also recorded a personal best, a testimony of a big reserve that still is hidden in this young man. He may have missed this mark, but by the look of things he may not miss the next big mark. We wish him well and wish to continue supporting Ferdinand to achieve great feats.
